Any help with identifying this person?

Unfortunately I haven't got a clue.
Would anyone else like to try?

(please note: the above still is from the Jennings film and has nothing to do with the Russian general that we're looking for)

L'inhumaine and film sources

Hello Eoin!

All the films in this blog are ones that I have found online - on YouTube or similar streaming sites or by downloading as torrents or rar. files. There are several film downloading forums and blogs out there. Just google the title of the film you're after and there's a chance you might find it.

L'inhumaine can be found on YouTube at the moment.

Veidt's Opium

Hello Clarice!

I wish I could indeed go to Tucson to catch a glimpse of that Opium VHS. I'd probably steal it, ha ha. Good thing I live in Europe and don't have the funds for travel at the moment.

Perhaps there's a digital transfer of Opium floating around somewhere on the internet.
I should run some new searches.

I haven't seen Conrad's King of the Damned! It might sound strange, but for me he will always be a silent star... I've watched a few talkie clips of his from YouTube and it just didn't seem "right". I will watch them eventually, I guess. But for the time being I like to stick to the silent ones...

The Lillian Gish memoir

Hello there!
I've been away for quite some time. I had a minor argument with my housemate, the whole thing escalated to the point where he cut off my internet connection. I tried setting up a mobile connection but that sucked in a big way so it was no good.
But now things are back to "normal" again, the internet is up and running and I can start sharing things with you again.

I'll start off with something that I received in the mail recently. I fetched it from the post office and opened it with trembling hands. What I was holding was the autobiography of Miss Lillian Gish, signed by the saintly lady herself:

Loads more pictures after the jump!

x) Related ephemera

The delightful lilianavonk left a comment about the general phenomenon of Veidtmania, she is a fellow maniac. I figured it was about time I posted some photos of things I've picked up since my last memorabilia update because I've acquired some Conrad related things too.
Click on pictures to see them in full size.

Ordered secondhand from Germany

Conrad Veidt as Cesare the Somnambulist.
Action figure from the Silent Screamers series, made my Mezco

printed screen shots from Das Wachsfigurenkabinett as a part of a collage on the wall of my new home

a Russian Vera Kholodnaya card from an online auction

a card that I believe depicts Vera Kholodnaya in her casket after her untimely death at the age of 25 in 1919

x) Things should be back to normal

Modern problems made me take a long pause from posting :
my computer broke down but it's working again and I'll have a new film entry up by this evening.

You can expect to see more of Jaque Catelain and Philippe Hériat .
Those French cats were amazing.

Here's a random photo of my lampshade with Catelain pin ups on it :

(the stills are from the El Dorado post)

Oh, and before I forget :
I would like to thank all the people who have left comments while I was away.
It's rewarding to get feedback.

My Silent Film Star Cards

You like something, you want the whole world to know about it.. well, at least I do.
I've been filling the ears of everyone I know with information about silent films for the past few months, they are pretty damn sick of it but I don't care.

Besides watching dem films I also love some of the stars more than anything on earth and I've got the habit of collecting cards that represent them. I've put a lot of money into books and cards recently but I don't regret it at all.
Silent films have saved my life, I honestly don't think I'd be here at this moment if it wasn't for all these films that I've talked about in this blog. This spring has been rough on me and I've come close to quitting a few times.

So here's a tiny celebration of some of my favorites, in the form of postcards that I've managed to collect.

Check the photos, after the jump!

A bit about my fandom

When the student is ready,
the teacher(s) will appear

I picked up a book that belongs to K., my grandfather. I have had it on semi-permanent loan for several years now and used to admire the Theda Bara pictures in it around 1999 but after that forgot all about it.
But now I started looking at it again and when I got to a certain page - ZAP !
I felt like something had hit me.
It was these pictures :

That kid.
I didn't stop to read his name or anything, just noted he had that certain something that very few people do. Then I went on reading the book but within minutes felt the irresistible urge to take a few more glimpses at that boy. I flipped back the pages and read out his name.
